SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — We’ve had a pleasant start to the week with radiant sunshine and warming temperatures. It’s really starting to feel like spring in the Beehive State, but with the spring season comes allergy season. Tree pollen is the main culprit this week, but grass and weeds will soon join the pollen party as blustery winds kick it up over the weekend and temperatures continue climbing.
High pressure has positioned itself firmly over the region which has helped keep the atmosphere stable, allowing for temperatures to stay on the rise. Today we expect to see daytime highs a few degrees above seasonal norms. Most will top out in the low 60s, the Wasatch Back will be in the 50s, and we’ll see some 70s in the eastern and southernmost parts of the state. Today, St. George could hit the first 80° day of the year, if not today, then likely tomorrow as temperatures will continue to rise statewide.
By the end of the workweek, we should be seeing highs soar 10-15° above average. St. George will reach the mid to upper 80s and the 70s will make a comeback along the Wasatch Front, rising to the upper 70s by Friday. Friday is on track to be Utah’s warmest day so far in 2024 thanks to a strong southerly flow on the west side of the exiting high-pressure system. However, with high pressure out of the way, the door opens for some moisture to fill in.
We’ll see cloud cover increase on Friday, but they will not hold enough moisture to anticipate rain. Our next round of gloomy weather could move in by Sunday evening into Monday which will drop temperatures back below seasonal norms. As of right now, it seems it’s on a trajectory that will eat up much of its moisture before reaching Utah, but isolated showers are still in the forecast.
We’ll keep our eye on Sunday/Monday’s storm and continue refining the details. Stay up-to-date on our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
